The Virtus Allergy, Asthma, and Respiratory Centre specialises in the treatment of diseases caused by allergic reactions to the immune and respiratory systems, including food allergies, eczema, allergic rhinitis, asthma, and other forms of allergic reactions. Equipped with advanced facilities, the Centre is committed to providing patients with appropriate and effective treatment.
Surveys indicate that among the most common allergy symptoms are nasal sensations, food allergies, eczema and asthma caused by allergic reactions, etc. Indeed incidences of many allergic diseases seems to be on the increase. Lack of understanding on allergies often causes delay in diagnosis and treatment, and thus worsening the effect of the disease.
Food allergies in children and adolescents are particularly worthy of our attention. About 5% of children aged 14 or younger have an adverse reaction to some food substances. Extreme allergic reactions may result in shock and is life-threatening.
Indeed food allergies is closely related to eczema, asthma and allergic rhinitis. Studies have shown that young children with moderate to severe eczema have higher chance of food allergies than normal children.
The Centre provides allergy diagnosis for patients through advanced allergy tests, including skin prick test, allergic blood test, drug allergy test, food or drug allergen challenge test, in the course of treatment. For cases not completely relieved by other treatment, the specialist doctor might recommend allergen immunotherapy which involves injections of purified allergen extracts in a series of dosage so as to reduce the allergic symptoms.
In addition, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a common among middle-aged patients. The Centre provides specialist treatment and is equipped with advanced equipment such as non-invasive ventilators to take care of the patient's recovery. Respiratory diseases may require biopsy to extract the cells of the lesion for further examination. In those situations whereby the lesion is either too small and located in the bronchial concealed position, or the patient is not suitable for percutaneous acupuncture, the Centre may apply the ENB (electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy) which is an advanced equipment for such purposes and currently the best choice.
